Pradaxa (dabigatran) is an anticoagulant which is also
called a thrombin inhibitor and is used for preventing the formation of blood
clots in the body. Manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.,
one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world, the drug was approved
by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010.
Unfortunately, this blood thinner received a lot of negative
reports most of which was about the risk of uncontrollable bleeding. Boehringer
Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals received as many as 2,400 Pradaxa lawsuits soon after
the drug was released. The victims claim for pradaxa lawsuit settlement for the
undue pain and suffering they had to face from this drug.
Complications noted in the lawsuit
Being a blood thinner, the major problem with the drug was
about the risk of unstoppable bleeding as there was no known antidote till
2015.

What are the main accusations?

Ingelheim has no known antidote for the drug and they did not seek approval for
it until 2015. There are further claims in the lawsuits which state how the
manufacturer misled and misbranded the patients and their physicians about the
risks and benefits linked with the drug. The victims claim for the expenses of
their medical treatment, pain and losses in pradaxa lawsuit settlement as the manufacturer involved itself in
deceptive marketing practices.
Settlement in Pradaxa
As of today, there is no known Pradaxa class action lawsuit
but the lawyers have received individual personal injury cases. On May 28,
2014, Boehringer Ingelheim announced for a settlement of worth $650 million
which would pay off over 4000 lawsuits pending at that time.
